TOUR DURATION: 7hrs (Approx.)

Visit the city of dreaming spires in a traditional London black taxi cab! Our knowledgeable, friendly driver-guide will take you to the very best spots in this enchanting city of colleges, bridges, gardens and historic buildings. The University is made up of about 40 colleges, and all of them have their own unique charm. Many of them allow the public to wander around the hushed, Gothic quads – and the oldest college goes back to the time of King Alfred the Great in 872! Unlike large tour buses, a black taxi cab can make its way right to the heart of the city, so you get to see much more: you’ll see Merton College founded in 1264, and the so-called Mob Quad – the oldest quadrangle in the city!

We’ll also take you to see the stunning 500 year old Corpus Christi College with its striking pelican statue, and Christ Church College whose dining hall was the model for the Hogwarts dining hall in the Harry Potter movies (please be aware that opening times can vary – we would be happy to check this for you!). We’ll be able to see the Eagle & Child pub, where ‘Lord of the Rings’ author J R Tolkien and the writer C S Lewis used to meet regularly, and see the Wren masterpiece The Sheldonian building, the picturesque Bridge of Sighs, and the lovely Bodleian Library among many others. Don’t forget Oxford is also the home of the Austen Powers Mini, and there are usually plenty of them to be seen on the streets – groovy baby!

Time permitting, we can make a detour on the way back through one of the many Cotswolds villages outside Oxford (where the British Prime Minister lives as well as various well-known celebrities and TV personalities) that are delightfully picturesque with their honey-coloured walls and thatched cottages…

It’s easy to combine a trip to Oxford with a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon and make a long day of it too…Stratford-upon-Avon is a delightful market town that was home to William Shakespeare – we’ll take you past the house where Shakespeare’s wife lived, the place where he is known to have died in 1616, and his burial place at holy Trinity Church.
